Born in:
Mazara del Valle, Sicily
Resided in:
Smithtown, NY
Teresa P. Guage passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024. She is survived by her three loving daughters, Diane Mardy (Jonathan), Barbara Gertzog (Chip), and Carol Scheim (Douglas), eight grandchildren, Katherine, James, Christopher, Daniel, Margaret, Robert, Charlotte, and Kristina, their spouses and partners, and nine great-grandchildren. Teresa was predeceased by her loving husband, George Guage, and many other beloved family members and friends.
Teresa completed her masters degrees in education fields, and worked very hard to complete her studies, especially as a college student, due to the challenges of growing up in the depression adjacent era. She was a brilliant educator, primarily as a teacher in the NYC public school system, where, among many achievements, she innovated techniques to teach english as a second language that still resonate today. She was also fluent in Italian, French, and Spanish. Even in her later years, she was so smart, often besting others in word and card games until her last days.
Most important, Teresa was a loving Mom, Nany, G.G, and Aunt who is beloved by her family. She was also an exceptional cook, kind, and thoughtful, a mentor and friend to many, a person of faith, intellect, and goodness who always made her family her utmost priority. We say goodbye to her with the words she always used: “Love, Love” Mom, to you forever.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you support the charity of your choice in commemorating our mother.

My favorite client and adopted grandmother. I will cherish the past two years of meeting you and your family. The 7 rounds of rummy you taught me, and word of the day. I’ll miss cooking for you and spending time with you. Love and miss you Terry. Say hello to my Mom and Nana.
Love Always,
Desiree
Teresa was my neighbor in Smithtown for many years!
She was always pleasant whenever we spoke, and a very kind lady !
Rest in Peace , Teresa! 🙏
She was an amazing woman who raised three strong, smart, independent women who grew up to become amazing women!
I have many special memories of Carol’s Mom. She was a kind, sweet mother and grandmother who loved her family . I remember how much she enjoyed cooking when she babysat during preschool days. Her chicken soup was delicious’, she often sent some home with us. Always a smile on her face and happy to see you. You will be miss, Nany
