Guestbook

  1. Coach Walker was a longtime assistant on the girls varsity basketball team. He was loved by every member of our team..He went above and beyond to bring people together and put smiles on everyone’s faces. I’ve never been in a situation or worked with anybody that brought so much joy to the people around him. He was not only a great coach , but a better friend.

  2. The mention of the name “Tom Walker” always has, and always will, bring a smile to my face, and a warmth to my heart. With Sympathies, Annie Hofmann

  3. candleTom Walker (or as we lovingly called him Mr.T) was a loving, smart, compassionate human being. So glad our paths crossed. He surely will be missed. Our prayers to his wife JoAnn , kids and family.

  4. candleOur deepest condolences. Praying he is resting in peace. Our love, deeply felt thoughts and prayers, go out to Joanne, Brian, Kevin and the rest of his family, friends and loved ones.

  5. candleMr Walker was SUCH an inspirational teacher that made a big difference in my daughter’s life when he taught as her 2nd grade teacher in Mt Sinai Elementary School back in 1983-84. Mr Walker was kind and well loved by students and their parents. He made a big impact in students lives!! Mr Walker was well respected.

  6. Tommy was a very unique man. He had so much compassion for everyone he came across. I will miss my good friend, more than I can explain.

  7. Tom had a way of making our neighborhood feel like home. He always helped in any way possible, whether it was lending a hand, offering advice, or simply being there when someone needed him. He was kind, dependable, and always ready with a wave, a conversation, or support when it mattered most. He was Always there for Us Kids & my family . ALL the way !

He will be deeply missed and always remembered. Rest in peace 🤍

Thank You for ALWAYS being Such a Great neighbor & Friend <3

  8. candleTom Walker A man loved and respected by all . I will personally be missing his smile and sense of humor .Our conversations about life , family and of course his beloved Knicks God bless you Tommy…You will be deeply missed

  9. For 40 years or so we have been lucky enough to be the Walkers’ neighbors directly across our one lane road, which also functioned as our town square. Tom and his family are wonderful neighbors and we would often chew the fat with Tom, rakes in hand, about almost everything, sports, politics, being Irish, the books he was reading and yes, the hapless New York Jets. The twinkle in his eye was one of hope, optimism, earnestness and mischief. He was especially proud of his family and his students, and also his ability to keep up with the older people on his pickup basketball game. Tom was a multi-faceted, multi-interest person, a doer, who was genuinely interested in everyone with whom he spoke. We are saddened with grief with his family, but very much proud to hold his memory close to our hearts. We miss Tom already. That will always remain so. Much love to the Walkers.

  10. Coach Walker was a kind and funny basketball coach, a great teacher, and a lovely friend to my parents. He will be missed sorely. <3

  11. While I haven'[t seen Tom in many years, I have very fond memories of our outings with Joanne, Ellen, Kenny, Laura, Donna, the list goes on. To Joanne, Brian, Kevin and respective wives and children, you were blessed with an awesome gentleman and today is a sad day for all. Sending my deepest condolences to all and may your many memories be a source of comfort. Sincerely, Annie Blumberg Wieland.

  12. candleMay you find comfort in the amazing memories you shared with your dad. We are glad we had the chance to meet Tom, he was a humble man and so very proud of his family. We know how difficult the journey with cancer has been, may he now be at peace.

  13. Coach Tom Walker was our dearest friend and teammate for many years at Mount Sinai Adult Basketball. He always brought to the court his loving smile, kind words and great 3 point shot! Every Sunday morning he was the first to show up to practice and discuss the Knicks, Yankees and the ongoing losses of the Jets. We will miss you Coach but rest assured, never forgotten. Your Basketball Family

  14. candleWhat to say about a man who was gentlemen. Tom was a great man, he was comical on and off the court. No matter if he had an open lane for a layup he would always dribble back out 40’ from the hoop to shoot 😄. He would never use foul language on the court but instead loved the word “fudge” when he missed a shot. Tom will be missed in so many ways our hearts can’t begin to say. We may have lost a giant but god gained a great coach and we will always cherish his memory. Our deepest sympathies go out to Joann and there family.

  15. Thoughts and Prayers go out to Tom’s Family and Friends. Tom will always be remembered as an exceptional educator! He made a tremendous impact on everyone he came in contact with. A true, caring and loving individual whose smile would light up the room. Rest in peace!

  16. We were all blessed to have Tommy Walker in our lives. He was such an optimistic guy who would greet you with a twinkle in his eyes and big smile. Tommy was a great family man and so proud of his Irish roots that we loved to talk about. Thanks for your friendship Coach Walker. We’ll miss you very much. Rest in peace friend.

  17. candlePrayers from the Yavorka family to the Walker family. Tom was a great guy. Tom had a contagious positive attitude that made him a pleasure to be with. He was also a pillar in the Mt Sinai community especially around the basketball court. As a teacher and coach, he influenced so many lives in a positive way. As a Sunday morning player, he made the game more enjoyable making his legendary 3 pointers with a smile on his face. Rest in peace Tom.

  18. candleTom was an incredible husband, brother, father, grandfather, teacher and coach. He instilled kindness, patience, determination and a warrior spirit into Brian and Kevin and they have done the same with their sons. Tom is not here with us physically but his spirit lives on.
We love and miss you Tom.

  19. Our Condolences to Tom’s family and friends. He was a wonderful person and great teacher. You will all be in our thoughts and prayers.
    Karen and David Abramowski

  20. Joanne & family…….I’m saddened to learn this news. I hadn’t seen Tommy in years, but I have incredibly warm memories of playing lots of basketball with him. He was funny, kind and just a little competitive. May his memory always be a blessing for you all. David Van Wagner

  21. candleOur condolences to the Walker family. So sorry for the loss of your dad. It’s clear his influence lives on in you, “Coach.” You and your family are in our prayers. -Ron Kantor

  22. Tenacious and competitive on the court Tom’s energy and intensity made him an easy teammate, opponent and friend. Ill miss his smile and pregame chats and sharing Yankee and Giants gossip over a Guinness at Tara’s. His close relationship with his son Kevin was beautiful to watch on the court. What a blessing to have that memory. God bless you Tom and God bless your family.

Lived playing basketball with him when I was able to. I will always remember playing with him. Seldom was there a 3-point opportunity that he chose to pass up on. Great memories! 👍

  24. candleMr Walker was my second grade teacher in the early 80s. He always made learning fun. We won the class kickball championship that year. What amazing energy he projected to the class. He is a model teacher and human being – someone we should all strive to be. He will never be forgotten.

  25. candleTom was the nicest person I ever met, a true gentleman, his sister was my wife’s best friend and she was taken too soon also.. my wife was also taken by cancer this year, another angel, I know in my heart that the three of them are up there watching over us as we pray for them, god bless🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

  26. Tommy was a dear friend and such a nice guy. Always smiling and never did he have a bad word about anyone. I haven’t seen him in about 4 years since we moved to Virginia but he’s one of the people you don’t forget. Of course we that played basketball with him will never forget his almost half court 3 point shots. Our prayers go out to his family. He will be missed, may he rest in peace.

  27. candleWe were so saddened today to hear about the loss of Mr. Walker. During a time when my son needed it most, we were blessed to have Mr. Walker as his social studies teacher. He always had something motivational to write on his tests like the infamous “You must be butter ’cause you’re on a roll!” I will never forget the difference he made for us. Truly Mt. Sinai’s best. Please accept our deepest condolences.

  28. I am saddened to learn of Tommy’s passing. We went to Port Jeff together and spent more than a little time playing pickup ball back in the day (and I’m talking early 70’s 😬). Although I only saw him a couple of times at class reunions in the ensuing 50 years after moving to Florida for school and work, it was always easy to catch up with him. I’m kicking myself now for not having reached out more, but I have great memories of a kind and friendly man and it’s clear he was loved by many. May his memory be a blessing.
