Thomas C. Barrella
February 27, 1938 ~ April 28, 2024
Thomas C. Barrella of Ridge, New York, passed away on April 28, 2024 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sally Barrella (nee: Ranucci), his three children, Joann M. Lane (Michael), Thomas J. Barrella (Sueli), Christopher J. Barrella (Susan), and his grandchildren Allison, Emily, Thomas, Rebecca, Maria, Audrey, and Isabelle.
Tom was born on February 27, 1938 and raised in the Bronx. He was a long-term resident of Long Island, moving to Syosset, Woodbury, Huntington and finally settling in Ridge. As a young man, Tom served in the Navy Reserves and earned a degree in civil engineering.
A successful contractor, he built numerous buildings throughout the tristate area including shopping centers, medical and office buildings, churches and police stations. He loved and was extraordinarily proud of his work as a project manager at the World Trade Center. Tom’s friends and family could always count on his generosity and willingness to help others.
He loved spending time coaching his sons’ youth sports teams in Syosset, being out on the water and imparting his love of the Yankees and Rangers to his children and grandchildren.
In his retirement, Tom took great pride in his grandchildren, going to every concert, play, sporting event and graduation. He was an active participant in their lives from the time they were born and was their biggest cheerleader.
Tom’s unwavering support of his family will be sorely missed by his loved ones, while his intellect, talent, wit and wisdom will be missed by all who were privileged to know him.
