Thomas McCabe was born January 2, 1935 to the late Martin and Anna McCabe. He attended Catholic Elementary and High School and married the love of his life Marjorie with whom he celebrated his 65th wedding anniversary in August of 2021. Together they raised and loved their five children Dawn, Michael, Kim, Erin and Jill. He instilled upon his children his Christian values, love of family, sports and dedication to service.
Thomas served and protected Suffolk County for 27 years as a member of the Suffolk County Police Department earning numerous accommodations for his dedicated service. Thomas highly decorated quickly rose to the rank of Detective where he served on the Narcotics and Homicide Squads. Thomas served on multi jurisdictional task force with the Narcotics Bureau and received many accommodations. During the late 1980’s, Thomas was instrumental in the apprehension and conviction of the serial rapist referred to as the South Shore Rapist developing and using voice identification to secure the conviction. Thomas retired from the SCPD in 1992.
Thomas died peacefully on April 26, 2022 after a long battle of multiple heath issues and dementia.
Thomas is survived by his loving wife Marjorie, His sister Anne and husband James O’Farrell, his brother Martin McCabe and wife Betsy, his daughter Dawn Shackles, Kim and her husband Daniel Viola, Jill McCabe and Gina Fratangelo, his grandchildren Timothy McCabe and his wife Laura, Jennifer Cantrell and Alex Danza, Shannon Cantrell, Matthew Shackles, Christopher Shackles and his wife Rachel, Kirsten Shackles and Brian Fox, Jenna Shackles “Sunshine” fiance Oliver Mizrahi, Andrew Viola and his wife Nicole, Christian Viola, Kevin, Cindy and Crystal McCabe. Great Grandchildren Shawn, Maggie and Allison McCabe, Caeden Shackles, Alaina Fox, Lucas and Alexandria Danza, Julianna Viola and baby Viola July 2022.
