  17. Tommy was a great man. I was a transit cop in D/02, maybe 1986/87, and I’m grappling with a farebeater at the 34 st / 7 ave station. Tommy was off duty, on his way to work at D/11. He really saved me that day, got the guy off me, talked him into handcuffs. Literally. Years later we worked together in D/20. My brother Vinny was with the TPD and loved him too. May Tommy rest in peace.

  18. candleMy condolences to Jill and the Grimaldi family. Tommy – your genuine laughter, friendship and kind heart will surely be missed. Some of my best days at 33 were by your side. And your generous Christmas gatherings will always be remembered with gratitude. Rest in peace, dear Tommy.

  19. Tom was one of my greatest mentors and role models and played a significant role in shaping the person I am today. He was my first boss and, while he was tough on me at times, he never gave up on me, and always pushed me to be better. Over the past 15 years, we developed an unbreakable bond, and I am deeply grateful for his guidance, support, and the example he set. Much of my work ethic can be credited to him. I will continue his legacy of mentoring our next generation of workers. He will be sincerely missed, and I will never forget all he has taught me.

  28. candleMy sincerest condolences to the Grimaldi family on their loss. Tommy was one of the best bosses I had the pleasure to work with. He showed me the right way to do things in the early 90’s working in D-33. May he rest in heavenly peace.

  29. candleMy deepest condolences to Jill and the rest of the Grimaldi family. I worked with Tom on the Transit Police Department, and always found him to be a real gentleman. It was truly an honor to have known him. May you eventually find comfort and joy in each memory of him.

  30. I would like to share a story about Tommy. Tommy and I were on patrol together as cops when a Precinct Sgt and driver escorted a very drunk male onto the #4 train platform. Tommy respectfully informed the Sgt that it was not the right thing to do because this guy was probably going to end up on the tracks or even worse. The Sgt instantly got nasty and tried to bully Tommy with rank. Tommy held his ground and when the Sgt escalated the situation it resulted in Tommy being acknowledged as doing the right thing. Tommy was a gentleman and a good cop. Prayers and Best Wishes to his family.

  31. candleI am so sorry to hear of Tommy’s passing. He was such a special part of my and my family’s life. The memories I have of him — of all of us together — are the ones I treasure. I hope his loved ones take comfort in knowing he touched many people in his life. 🙏🤍

  32. candleIt is with my deepest sympathy hearing about Tommy’s passing. Tommy was a great guy very respectful and close to his fellow officers and subordinates. I worked with many times .he be missed. May he rest in peace. My condolences to his family. God.Bless.

  33. candleTom was a great boss working with him in the Smithtown Parks department. He was a mentor to me, always pushing me to have a strong work ethic. Rest in Peace 🙏🇺🇸

  34. candleThe best way I can describe Tommy is that he was truly a kind-hearted man and friend. He had his own uniqueness in keeping people laughing. I always heard my husband, Rob, on the phone with Tommy and listened to their uncontrollable laughter that carried on for minutes. I said to Rob he only laughs that hard with Tommy, and I was told Jill said the same thing to Tommy about Rob. That was their special bond that I was witness to, and privileged to occasionally be a part of. Tommy had a quirky way of putting his own spin on words and names. He mentioned a particular wine named Clos De Napa that he suggested I try. He called it “Cloppa Di Noppa.” From that day forward, Cloppa Di Noppa was how we knew it. Whenever Tommy stopped over to discuss work with Rob, I would make him a cup of coffee with a “smidge” of half and half that he asked for. Who says “smidge” besides Tommy? There are so many other wonderful and fun memories of Tommy. He was loved and will be sorely missed by all. Rest peacefully, Tommy. You’re gone far too soon dear friend.💔

  35. Losing Tommy, especially so young, breaks my heart. It brings comfort to look back at the incredible, tight-knit family we shared growing up. I always looked forward those Sunday dinners on Long Island when all the cousins and my dad’s sisters would get together. Tommy’s fierce hatred of cheese was always a classic staple of those meals and a detail that still brings a warm smile to my face.
Of course nothing can ever replace those legendary Christmas Eves in our Commack basement. We would sit at that table and eat, laugh, go to church and then repeat after midnight with pizza, sausage and Santa.
Tommy was a fun-loving, great guy and the life of the party. He will be deeply missed. Jill please know that I am holding you and your family close in my heart.
    With love and sympathy,

  36. David Weis
So sorry to hear the sad news of Tommy’s sudden passing. Prayers for you Jill and you family. The world is a darker place now without Tommy’s beautiful smile lighting up the area around him ! God bless !

  37. There are many memories that I will always cherish about my relationship with Tommy. Our morning briefings were filled with unstoppable laughter. Discussing food was our priority. We wanted to know from each other what was for dinner last night, and what’s for dinner tonight. We had a quest where we could find the best black and white cookie. Our discussions were also about family, his NYPD stories, trips he went on, and reciting old movie quotes and trivia. Tommy taught me civility, compassion, and structure in a way that I would understand. He’s the older brother I never had, and my best friend, but most importantly, my partner. “See you tomorrow, partner.” 💔

  38. candleTommy was my best friend. Every day at work we’d get egg sandwiches together, and somehow the simplest moments became the best memories. He loved marble pound cake, and he always knew how to make people smile.More than anything, Tommy gave me wisdom. Whether he realized it or not, he taught me a lot about life, friendship, and what really matters. We spent countless hours together, and no matter what was going on, we always found a reason to laugh.I’ll miss those conversations, those laughs, and the everyday moments that never seemed important at the time but now mean everything. Tommy wasn’t just a friend—he was family to me, and I’ll carry his memory with me forever.

“The memory of the righteous is a blessing.” — Proverbs 10:7

  39. Great times and memories, rest easy my d-11 and tpf brother ,my condolences to his family

  40. candleSending my deepest condolences to the Grimaldi family. Working with Tommy for just a year at the Parks Department felt like knowing him for a lifetime. He was such a great guy and will be missed. Rest in peace.

  41. candleTom was my supervisor for many years at the Smithtown Parks Department. He was a great friend and always uplifted and encouraged me. He helped me in my career by being my job recommendations when I finished college. I always looked forward to working with him, since we would always talk about anything and everything! I will always remember Tom’s kindness and the joy that he brought to everyone around him. My deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time.

  42. candleFrom the beginning, Tommy stood out. As a young kid, he may have had a little troublemaker in him, but even then, there was something special about him. Beneath the mischief was a person with strong values, a generous heart, and a willingness to help others whenever he was needed.

As I grew up, my memories of Tommy became deeply embedded in who I am. Although we were cousins, I always looked up to him as an older brother. I remember seeing him play the drums, and in that moment, I knew that was what I wanted to do. Tommy helped shape my musical background and gave me a love for the music of the ’60s that remains etched in my mind to this day.

Over time, Tommy became more than someone I admired; he became someone I trusted deeply. His sense of humor was above most, and he could make anyone laugh with just a facial expression. He had many friends who looked up to him, not only because he was funny, but because he was real, loyal, and always present for the people he cared about.

Some of our most meaningful moments came during the long talks we shared at my house when he would stop by. We both carried common troubles, and through those conversations, we found comfort in knowing we were not alone. Tommy understood me, and I understood him. That bond meant so much that I chose him to be my sponsor at my confirmation, and I proudly took his name, Thomas, as my confirmation name.

As life went on, Tommy became one of the people who helped keep me here. I literally owe my life to Tommy, along with my cousin Steven, my niece Kristen, and my wife, Peggy. Without those four people, I would not be here today. Tommy was my cousin, but he was also my brother, my friend, my confidant, and someone I knew I could always count on.

Tommy went on to serve proudly as an NYPD sergeant, a Port Jefferson Village constable, and a Smithtown Parks police officer. But his true legacy reaches far beyond any title. He influenced everyone who knew him. He gave laughter, strength, guidance, and loyalty. Anyone who knew Tommy knew greatness, and anyone who loved him will continue to carry his spirit forward. His life remains an inspiration, and his memory will always be a light for those of us blessed to have known him.

So today, I honor Tommy not only for the life he lived, but for the love, laughter, courage, and strength he gave so freely to others. I will carry his lessons, his music, his humor, and his name with me always. Though his absence leaves a space that can never be filled, his spirit remains woven into my life and into the lives of everyone he touched. Rest easy, Tommy. You were loved deeply, you will be missed beyond words, and you will never be forgotten.

    • I worked with Tommy in District 11. He was a great cop. He was very witty and had a great sense of humor. He was tough, empatheic and very smart. I learned a lot from him and I am grateful for his friendship. My condolences to his family.

  43. candleBlessed to have known Tommy, for most of my life, having shared endless moments of laughter, friendship & family with Jill & many friends.. Now we’ll all need to keep those memories alive .by holding him & our memories close to our hearts. May his soul be filled with light & love. He will forever be missed, loved & not forgotten..Rest in Peace.
