Trevor Anthony Verga MD

trevor verga

May 23, 1976 ~ April 9, 2022

Born in: Brooklyn, NY
Resided in: Kings Park, NY

Dr. Trevor A. Verga, husband, father, son, brother, uncle and dear friend passed away on April 9, 2022 at the age of 45.

The eldest child of Dr. Anthony and Barbara Holly Lawrence Verga, Trevor was born in Brooklyn on May 23, 1976. He  graduated from Northport High School in 1994 where he met his future wife, Kelly Donnelly. They married on Long Island in 2004 and settled in Kings Park where they had two beautiful children, Sydney 14, and Dylan 10.

Trevor knew from a young age that he wanted to become a physician. He graduated from American University and received his medical degree from New York University Grossman School of Medicine. He served as chief medical resident and cardiology fellow at North Shore University Hospital. At Temple he studied to become an electrophysiologist. He went on to earn a remarkable five board certifications and get an MBA in his spare time.

Dr. Verga joined North Suffolk Cardiology in 2010.  He also served as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Stony Brook University and President of the Medical Board at St. Charles Hospital.

If you were a patient of Dr. Verga’s, your heart was in brilliant hands.  If you were lucky enough to call him a friend, then you had the extraordinary blessing of knowing what was in his heart.  Trevor was exceptionally humble about his many accomplishments. He was a precious combination of modesty and talent, never mentioning his own impressive achievements but always inquiring of others. Trevor’s dedication to treating his patients was surpassed only by his love of family and loyalty to friends. He was beloved for his unique sense of humor, deferential charm, and unparalleled ability to find the rational side of any matter. He relished a good debate and had an unquenchable thirst for learning. He was a high school varsity athlete who excelled in football and wrestling. He passed down his playful spirit and love for competition to his children, even coaching their youth sports teams.

God must have needed a cardiologist, because he called home the best there was.  Trevor will be greatly missed by all those who called him dad, husband, son, brother or friend. May his memory be a reminder and an inspiration for us all to be kind, thoughtful, helpful and humble.

Trevor is survived by his children, Sydney and Dylan, wife Kelly, parents Dr. Anthony and Barbara Holly Verga, brothers Adam and Dale (Liz), and many wonderful friends and coworkers.

  137. candleDear Dr Verga, I remember the first day I met you. It was right after I almost passed out on the treadmill. You explained the ablation procedure and advised that even if you found the spot causing the trouble and you quarterized it, it could still come back, or you might not even be able to find the spot. You advised the other option was medication. You asked which I wanted to do. I remember being so out of it, I couldn’t even think straight. I decided medication and then asked you if I had made the right decision. You smiled at me with that reassuring smile, nodded your head and in an ever so calming voice told me, yes, I had made the right decision. That was five years ago and I still remember that smile and that sense of calm you gave me regarding my decision. I had seen you at other appts when you were trying to get the right combination of medication/dosage. I never felt like I was going to the dr. I felt like I was going to see a friend and I looked forward to the appts. I hadn’t been able to see you these past two years and now I need you again. I was looking forward to seeing you again. I hadn’t heard the news. You’ll never know the devastation I felt learning of your passing. Going to NSC without you there will just not be the same. I will miss you so very much. This is such a tragic and unbearable loss for all who knew you. I do hope you are at peace and I too wish there had been a different outcome. You may be gone from us here, but you will never be out of our hearts or forgotten……EVER!!!

  142. I met Dr Verga 2 years ago at work, he was coming 1 day a week for cardiology consult, that’s the kindest human being i ever met in my life, he becoming my Doctor, was treated me for high blood pressure, he told all the staff when I go to his office “ this Nurse is my friend, I work with her, treat her well” since when I go in there everyone welcome me like I was Doctor Verga family. How come a sweet , king human being like that can die, life is so unfair! He will always be in my heart! Go in peace Doc!

  147. I am heartbroken for Dr Verga and for everyone who loved him. He performed heart surgery on me a few years ago and at no point in time did I feel anything but safe in his care. Even though I did not spend much time with him, you could just tell that he was a special person… He made you feel like he was your close friend and that everything will be fine. He made sure if it. The world was a much better place with “Dr.Trevor”. May God bless him and his family. I am deeply sorry to hear of his passing. ❤️‍🩹
