Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. With deepest condolences to a great man and a legendary coach.1996 All County, All League 138Lbs.

  2. Even though we have not seen each other for a while, I have great memories of our friendship during our youth. You brought myself and many others joy. Rest peacefully my friend. My sorrow for your loss.

  3. On behalf of our entire family we offer our deepest condolences. All of my children were inspired and encouraged daily by Coach Altebrando, there are no words to describe the imprint of compassion and value He placed on our children’s’ lives. He came alongside my oldest, Josh, during one of the hardest times in his life, when he found out he was epileptic, and encouraged him to be limitless. My middle son Jordan, spent 4 years in badminton with him enjoying the antics and he allowed lightness in a time that was so tough for him. And then there is my Gracie who had him in gym the past few years. She is absolutely heartbroken, longing to be picked on as the ‘little Roiland’. He always saved a ball for her and loved her so well. Our hearts are breaking, and our prayers for you all are constant. We love you all.

  4. He was definitely one of the best gym teachers I’ve ever had. I loved hearing him mispronounce people’s names just because of how funny he said it.He certainly made an impact on everyone and he saved me from getting suspended and getting in trouble a few times. Sorry for your loss and I send my condolences to the family. Thanks– HN Kwakye, USN

  5. I was shocked to learn that you had passed away. You had made my time at Walt Whitman High School a good experience and you were a fun coach when I was joined the badminton team. I will miss you so much. . .rest in peace and thank you for everything.

  6. It is so rare to touch so many lives in so many magnificent ways. New and old friends both share the same heartfelt admiration and love for a man who leaves this world far too soon. I join the rest of the family and friends who hold his memory as a truly kind and giving human being.

  7. My heartfelt sympathies at the loss of a fine man, teacher, coach and friend. We worked together for over 20 years and he was as well respected and as dedicated as anyone could be. He will always be remembered by his many athletes over the years for his wrestling contributions to the sport and his school.

  8. We grieve with the family and the extended circle of friends. Coach Vin was a tremendous teacher of young people. Our family was blessed that our sons had him as a coach and educator during their WWHS years. Our oldest son, Burton, grew so much as part of Vin’s wrestling program from 7-12th grades. This man touched the lives of so many and his guidance, wisdom and lessons will carry on through his family, students, athletes, friends and wrestlers. RIP

  9. Mr. Altebrando was an awesome gym teacher to my kids at WWHS. He shared his enthusiasm, fun and kindness to so many students. He was always buying a “snack for a student who forgot their money, or may not have had enough money, to purchase a treat at the after school snack table. His smile, kindness and dedication to the students is something I will cherish always. My condolences to the family. RIP Mr. “A!

  10. My heartfelt sympathy to his family & friends. We have know Vinny since he was little…growing up with my 2 boys..long time friends. He was the first at our door when we lost our son 7 years ago…He was a loving soul…there are no proper words…I pray for strength for his family for the days ahead.. My heart hurts…..May He Be at Peace.

  11. It was a genuine privilege to work with Vin for many years. He cared deeply about what he did and about the young people with whom he worked. My thoughts and prayers remain with his family, friends and colleagues.

  12. I had the privilege of coaching the Stimson Middle School football team with Vin for several years. He had a way about him that always put kids at ease. They loved playing for him. Coaching with Vin was simply the most fun I ever had at work. Please accept my most sincere condolences. I pray that happy memories will bring comfort to his family and friends during this time.

  13. My heartfelt sympathy to the Altebrando Family. May you cherish all those fond memories. And hold them close to your heart. Vincent was a wonderful man. I remember Vincent growing up, being an old neighbor. God Bless !!

  14. My deepest condolences to Vinnie’s family. I graduated from Springfield College with him and have not seen him since. He was a kind and wonderful soul with an easy smile.

  15. Our heartfelt sympathy and condolences go out to Kristi, the girls, and the entire Altebrando family. You were like a little brother Vin, I will miss you very much. Rest in peace. xoxoxo Peter, Lynda, and Danielle

  16. Vinny was always a smiling face at work. His laugh was infectious and his sincerity made you feel important. The kids saw it and we knew it- Vinny was a special person who everyone was better because they crossed his path. We are heartbroken. Rest In Peace

  17. My most heartfelt condolences to the Altebrando family. Vinny was my coach at Walt Whitman 1997-2001 wrestling. Great guy and a great coach. I remember his dog Takedown that he would bring around once and a while. I have so many stories that just bring a smile to my face when I think of our team over those years. He told us how proud he was of us when we won the 2001 League Tournament. As fate would have it, I have the honor to work along side some of his other family members. God Bless.

  18. The things I will remember most about Vinny will be that smile and laugh. Nothing could lighten a room more than Coach Altebrando. You will be missed my friend.

  19. Words cannot begin to describe what a great person VIin was and will forever be. In the short time we knew him we experienced his huge heart, empathy, sense of humor and his zest for helping others. Just knowing him through Lacrosse gave us a glimpse of a great man. Besides the sideline talks watching our girls play lacrosse he always had a sharp wit on lifeΓÇÖs topics. Liz and I will always remember how kind and knowelegabke he was coaching her and other YJ girls at Miller Place for Lax for eating Disorders. He got all the girls to play their best as an unselfish team. We won them all and Vin was the reason! He made the girls laugh while teaching and love what they were doing. WeΓÇÖll never forget you. Kind soul. You will be missed but never forgotten.

  21. 21 years of some pretty fierce battles in League II but never any hate or loss of respect. You were a class act on and off the mat. You were a great coach and an even better father. 28. I was so sorry to hear about Vinny’s passing. I remember him as a very tough, competitive wrestler. Vinny was also one of the stands-up guys in the Suffolk County coaching community. He was an intense coach, but was always a gentleman. Suffolk County wrestling is diminished because of his passing. Unfortunately I was away earlier this week and just heard about this tragedy today. God speed, Vinny.Richard Rosener, former Bay Shore wrestling coach

  29. Vinny I only remember you as a little boy and turning into a young man. You and my son, Paul Aaron, hung out together.
