Yvette Mendez

yvette mendez

Yvette Mendez passed away peacefully at home on May 28, 2025, at the age of 58, after a courageous 15-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

Yvette was a devoted wife, a fiercely loving mother, and the heart of our family. Born in New York and raised in Bay Shore, she eventually settled in Ronkonkoma, where she spent over two decades raising her two sons, Christopher and Matthew, and building a life full of love, laughter, and memories that will live on forever. A true Queen, her strength and grace touched everyone around her.

Having met over 40 years ago, Yvette and her husband shared 38 years of a beautiful marriage and built a loving family together. Their bond was unwavering – he stood by her side through the hardest chapter of her life. He often said he learned so much from her. She had an unstoppable energy – none of us could ever keep up (but we certainly tried!).

Yvette was a dedicated court reporter for the Queens District Attorney’s Office for over 38 years. Even after her diagnosis, she kept working through treatment with the same strength and pride she brought to everything she did.

As committed as she was to her work, nothing brought her more pride or purpose than being a mother. She gave everything to her two boys, teaching them to be kind, to work hard, to never quit, and to strive for excellence in everything they do. Most of all, she showed up—for every game, every milestone, every moment that mattered.

Yvette had a big heart and an even bigger spirit. She was strong, funny, unfiltered, and completely one-of-a-kind. Sometimes described as “spicy,” she told it like it was, loved hard, and made sure those around her felt protected and cared for.

She leaves behind her husband, Manuel; her sons, Christopher and Matthew; her daughter-in-law, Samantha; her parents, Gilberto and Hazel; her siblings, Gilberto and Lissette; and countless loved ones who were lucky to be loved by her.

A wake will be held on Tuesday, June 3rd, from 4–8 PM at Branch Funeral Home in Smithtown. A burial will follow on Wednesday, June 4th, at 11 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made toward a memorial in honor of Yvette. Please contact us at cmtigers07@gmail.com to learn more about how to contribute.

She was a warrior, a protector, a Queen, and the most beautiful soul we knew and loved. She will be missed deeply, and her absence will be felt always—but the love she gave will stay with us forever.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I never met Yvette, but I saw the love her son Chris has for her. If even a small dose of her spirit is reflected in Chris, then she was an amazing person.

  2. Dear Manuel, Christopher, and Matthew,

I was a colleague of Yvette’s at the Queens DA’s office and am devastated to hear this sad news. She was wonderful to work with and wonderful in general. I wish you as much peace and comfort as possible. I miss her already.

    Sincerely,

    Josh Trachtenberg

  3. candleI’m at a loss of words. I’ve worked closely with her since I started in QDA back in 2018. Talking to her was always a joy especially since our personalities were more or less very similar.
Wishing nothing but the best for her family during this difficult time. Truly beyond devastating to lose such an incredible person that words can’t even describe.

  4. Always loved exchanging complaints about work, making a joke, and talking about our kids. You will be missed by so many,

    Rob Ferino

  5. I have known Yvette for over 30 years while at the Queens DA’s office. Each time we saw each other we would always talk about our kids, family, and work. Yvette will truly be missed. This is such a very sad day!

  6. Manny, Christopher, Matthew and Samantha,

Yvette was truly a bright light that loved fiercely and fought a courage’s battle for 15 months. We prayed so hard that she would beat this horrible disease. As she was fighting her own battle she always took the time to show concern for everyone else and was worried how this would affect her family. She was one of a kind and you all captured her true spirit. Rest easy sweet Yvette. May your memory be a blessing. We love you.

  7. Dear Manny and family,
It has truly been a pleasure getting to know Yvette for such a short period of time. I’ll never forget how comfortable you both made me feel at your beautiful home. I felt like I’d known you for years.
My heart is heavy but I have fond and fun memories while being around you and the family. I pray for peace and comfort for you all and May God continue blessing you all.

  8. May your light continue to shine through Manny, Mathew, Christopher and Sam. I did not know you long, but getting to know you and your family has been a joy. Yvette, you faced this battle with a warrior spirit. You will be missed!

    • My thoughts and prayers are with Manny, Matt, Chris and Sam. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

  9. I am so sorry to hear this devastating news. I was fortunate enough to work with Yvette at QDA many times over the past 7 years and she was by far one of the greatest! I never knew she was sick, which just goes to show how much of a fighter, warrior, and superwoman she was. I always enjoyed our conversations and I will keep her family in my prayers so that they may find the strength to get through this difficult time. What a beautiful life she lived and will be forever missed.

  10. Yvette was such a wonderful, caring person that I will always keep in my heart. Notably, most of the time we spent together, probably 75%, was inside the Grand Jury where Yvette shined as a professional who did her work with enthusiasm and a smile. She was amazing at her job. It seemed almost effortless although how difficult being a Grand Jury stenographer could be. We worked on some horrific cases together and Yvette’s presence undoubtedly made it all more successful. Outside the sanctity of the Grand Jury, Yvette was just such a beautiful person and was truly caring about everyone. I will recall her spirit and smile forever. May she rest in eternal peace.

  11. I always looked forward to bumping into Yvette in the hallway or on Queens Boulevard. She was a remarkable person and true friend. We would always talk about the daily grind of work but most of all we talked about family. Yvette introduced her son, Chris, to me when he was an intern. I always asked her about him but soon I didn’t even need to ask most times. She would just talk about them all the time. She was so proud of her boys and it showed that she loved being a mom. Her family was everything to her. We will miss you, Yvette!

  12. candleI am so sad to learn of Yvette’s passing. I worked with her a few years at the Queens DA’s office, I even shared an office with her for a while and really got to know and appreciate Yvette for who she was; a loving wife and mother who thought of her boys constantly, always on the lookout for little things to put in care packages she’d mail them. I never met Manny, but felt I knew him as she would always speak of him and their experiences raising their sons.
May thoughts of her bring joy and peace to all who love her.
    Rest peacefully, Yvette.
