Frank R. Balvin, 90, of Ridge New York, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024. Frank was born on June 20, 1934, in Port Jefferson, New York. He is the son of the late Rudolph and the late Catherine (Blackmur) Balvin. He was also predeceased by his wife Sonja (Hjelset) Balvin. Frank is survived by his daughter, Sherri (Balvin) Guthrie and her husband Charles Guthrie, granddaughters Carla Guthrie and Kimberly Guthrie and loving friends and family. Frank enjoyed growing up in Rocky Point, where he spent his youth exploring the beauty of Long Island. He proudly served 6 years in the U.S. army. Frank was an active member of the Carpenters Union (Local 290) having held most offices including president of the local, delegate to DC and Business Agent. As a young man, Frank worked on stock cars and raced at the Riverhead Raceway. Frank also had a passion for golfing and had artistic abilities often embellishing cards or notes with his drawings and cartoons. Frank was also an animal lover, having had many pets throughout his lifetime including dogs,horses, pigs and chickens. Frank was known for his outgoing nature and infectious sense of humor. Whether he was telling jokes or sharing a story, he had a unique gift for brightening every room he entered and making people feel at ease. Frank will be greatly missed. Frank, you were always good to me when I was a kid and even after I worked with you in the carpenters union.
Keep racing up there in heaven . You were always a winner to me !
Frank was a good friend. I worked with Frank for a dock building company when I was in college. I used to go with him to Riverhead Raceway where he raced stock cars on Friday nights. It’s been many years, but I remember him fondly.
